What I'm Reading Now: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
What I've Read: I'm now in chapter 20
What I'm Thinking About: Two tragic event happened! The first one was that Baba died of lung cancer. I don't understand how people refuse to take treatment! It frustrates me that you can have a chance to save your life and you choose not too.I understand that maybe God has something to do with it. This is when Amir has to become a man. Right before Baba dies Amir decides to get married. Publishing his book is what really makes his self esteem high.Because of the attacks, Amir moved and Rahim Khan wrote him a letter that said that he needed to go visit him. I found that kind of suspicious. Why couldn't he just have told him in the letter? Interesting.

What I'm Thinking About: I don't know what it is but I just don't feel like reading a book anymore. And I know its bad to stop right when I am about to finish but I don't I'm just not into it. I thought it was going to be better. I usually don't read these kind of books and the names have me all confused. I don't want to be confused anymore. I'm just going to start reading articles about science because that's what I love. I'm thinking about being a doctor or something involved with Science. I'm a CHEMISRTY freak so I turn out to be a chemist. Who knows but I'm going to take ever step as it comes.

NEW READINGS
October 29, 2010
What I'm Reading: I am reading the whole Health & Science section in The Week.
What I've Read: The first article was called, "The $#*! kids say today".
What I'm Thinking About: The first article was about how more and more kids use profanity then they did back then. And I think it's true. My brother is six and he says some really bad words but who am I to tell him to stop when I occasionally slip some out in front of him. Monkey see monkey do, right? Having read is article, I'm going to try to stop cussing so that my brother doesn't so it either. And it goes well with what we are doing in NHS we are trying to reduce the amount that students cuss. It's impossible to make everyone stop but people can do it a lot less. I'm doing the word F*%# you. For any little reason kids drop the F-bomb and I've heard some young kids cursing and that tells me that media really affects kids. And they need to be building their grammar with good words rather than bad words.

What I'm Reading: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
What I've Read: I started a new book. It's not divided into chapters so I can't really write what I've read. I'm still in Part 1.
What I'm Thinking About: I read the back of the book and I already knew I was going to like it. I like to read about rebels. This book takes place in a mental hospital. I don't know much more about it because I just started reading but Molly and Susan both have told me that this a very good book. And Molly told me about how they take out peoples brains so I'm interested. Now to read.

What I'm Reading: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
What I've Read: I'm half way through part 1.
What I'm Thinking About: Just like in Brave New World and 1984, the mental hospital is controlled by a nurse named Ms. Ratched, or Big Nurse and some call her, and he needs to have everything her way. And if its not and your are the reason why not then she has consequences. Chief Bromdren didn't want to go cut his hair and so they drugged him and he was out for hours. I think that's crazy! Also some people are sent to the shock room! Big Nurse is serious about having things in order. But then McMurphy comes and changes everything. He's the rebel in the book. He tries and succeeds to get people to think that Big Nurse shouldn't be telling them how to run their lives. I wouldn't like to be told what to do either. I find it funny that there is always someone in any sort of society that has to go against what everyone else is doing. In Brave New World it was Bernard and here its McMurphy. He is what makes the book interesting. What I want to know it why can't a society be perfect in a book? I think it's because then the book would be boring. Oh well, I like this book.

What I'm Thinking About: I don't understand how some people can spend their whole lives pretending to be someone they aren't. If I would do that I would get tired of it pretty quick. You need to how the real you so people can like you for who you really are. Bromden, throughout the book, has lied about being deft. Why lie about that? why can't he just interact with everyone else? I'm wondering what he is hiding from the world. McMurphy and Bromden are complete opposites and McMurphy is coming around I think will soon find out that Bromben isn't really deft.

What I'm Thinking About: If I haven't said it enough, I really love this book. I want to read more books like this one. I really liked 1984 because it was about the same thing. I don't know why but I just have a thing for rebels. I always find myself asking why they do they things they do. Like McMurphy, he just tries to get everyone to go against the rules. What time on brain thinks of these things to do? You have to be really bright to come one with those kind of things. I'm very impressed at villains and their way of thinking.

REFLECTION:
Wow I'm surprised at myself. When I'm bored now I read. Which was something that I never used to do. I didn't do as well on my PSAT but that's why I'm going to keep reading. I still need to read more frequently but I've improved so that's what matters. It still get lazy sometimes and I'll put off the day until later and forget to read but in the end I do read. I tend to read at night right before I go to bed so I read for a while and then fall asleep. That's the only time I really have free because I'm always busy.
